HARDER AND HARDER It’s a miracle I’m alive Coulda left you there when I arrived Here to lift you up indefinitely Never let you down now go to sleep All these options on the table we’ve been lying to ourselves All these options on the table we’ve been honest t-to a fault It's getting harder and harder To give it louder and louder It’s miracle you survived You did your best as my guide Here to help you up definitely Wait for me until I sleep It's getting harder and harder To give it louder and louder All these options on the table we’ve been lying to ourselves All these options on the table we’ve been honest t-to a fault It's getting harder and harder To give it louder and louder

CONSTANT CRADLE Always coming up with something nasty Always coming up with something new Always telling us that we can trust them They always know what is best for you - yeah Building walls in between each other Any light to expose the truth Find a god that you wanna confess to And take a hammer to that hallelujah Never let these constant cradles Define your point of view Because if you rest in constant cradles They’ll stick their claws in you Always coming up with something nasty Always coming up with something new Always telling us to get a reaction Finding comfort in a padded room - yeah Never let these constant cradles Define your point of view Because if you rest in constant cradles They’ll stick their claws in you Gotta keep ‘em guessing Cuz they wanna keep you, wanna keep you

WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE Vying all the time to fill up some empty space Just to dig a hole for somebody else to replace And we keep telling our resolve throw caution to the wind But every time we try the animal always win Who do we think we are? Anytime anyplace we’ll bleed it, who do we think we are Nobody lives forever, who do we think we are? Anytime anyplace we’ll bleed it, who do we think we are If there’s no one to remember Take the temperature and tell me it ain’t warm We’ve been bent and broke and brazen and we feel like going off And keep telling our resolve throw caution to the wind But every time we try the animal always win Who do we think we are? Anytime anyplace we’ll bleed it, who do we think we are Nobody lives forever, who do we think we are? Anytime anyplace we’ll bleed it, who do we think we are If there’s no one to remember You’ll always be a part of me Been mating to die in outer space Do you wanna be? Don’t leave your bed But we can’t have all and either way In spite of these philosophies I don’t mind Cuz I’ll medicate all of your kind Who do we think we are? Anytime anyplace we’ll bleed it, who do we think we are Nobody lives forever, who do we think we are? Anytime anyplace we’ll bleed it, who do we think we are If there’s no one to remember

Thems 02:49
THEMS Hoping and praying for a savior’s touch Wrestling holy water from the devil’s clutch Drinking in a feeling that you’ll learn will never last All your beliefs will stick to you Sometimes it’s better to come unglued Sitting in the breeze when the shit hits the fan Do you get what you want? Does it ever turn out like the way you thought it would? We can guess, all that we want But we’ll never know until we’re led to our reward Chasing Alice Wonder down the rabbit hole Makes you always wonder why you’re never whole Picking up the bricks to build a wall around your heart Deal your cards to the congregation, play your hand in any combination But when are you going to turn water into wine? Do you get what you want? Does it ever turn out like the way you thought it would? We can guess, all that we want But we’ll never know until we’re led to our reward

Multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/vocalist/producer Laurence Schroeder, musically known as Regal Standard, is part-sponge and part-mirror. He is in a constant state of absorbing information, ideas and new instruments for creation, and his output is a sonic reflection of his headspace.

Over the last two decades Laurence has produced and performed in numerous bands as well as his own solo projects. His years of experience have fed into the five-song EP0000001, wholly written, performed, recorded and produced by Laurence. Mixed by Ken Sluiter (Morrissey, Andra Day) and mastered by Hans Dekline (The Pixies, Ben Lee). The songs range from the high octane “Chemical Attraction,” to the heart-wrenching, intimate power ballad “Harder and Harder,” the swinging energy-surge of “Constant Cradle,” the alt.country leaning “Who Do We Think We Are” and the intoxicating “Thems.”

Laurence’s songs draw from his rock background and are rooted in organic sounds. At the same time, they embrace all the capabilities of modern technology and are both social commentaries and personal outpourings. The EP0000001 was preceded by the crunching guitar riffs and heavy-duty drum assault of the stand-alone single, “Understanding,” mixed by the Grammy-nominated Brandon Friesen.

Says Laurence, “I have never felt this free to explore topics outside of the realm of traditional love songs and into something more meaningful and representative of what I currently feel about the state of the world. I’m trying to make sense of it like everyone else, taking responsibility for myself, trying to put some thoughtful observations out into the universe, and having as much fun as I can along the way.”

His music has drawn comparisons to wide-ranging artists from Scritti Politti and Squeeze to Supertramp, The Cars, Mars Volta, Silversun Pickups and Rage Against the Machine. Of “Understanding,” respected rock critic Katherine Turman (Spin, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard) says, “It had me from the first second--which is amazing and rare. Amazing energy, production, dynamics. Really incredibly catchy. Timeless, with a touch of Duran Duran and super approachable while still being cool.”

Rock and Roll Globe premiered “Chemical Attraction,” which it called “One of the most kinetic cuts of EP0000001.” About the song Laurence told Rock and Roll Globe, “”Chemical Attraction” is about the personification of addiction. The narrator in the song is whatever the listener is addicted to: substances, behaviors, their phone, social media, ideologies. It comes through as their inner voice, mocking them for being so weak in its presence.”

This is a huge maturation from Laurence’s early forays into the music industry at the age of 22 when his Chicago-based power-pop band, ExtraVery was signed to Warner Brothers Records. As the principal musician and co-songwriter, he did extensive recording with marquee producers Steven Hague, John Fields, Greg Archilla and Doug McBride. He has had sessions in major studios across the globe including Mayfair in London, England, Bearsville in Woodstock, New York, House of Blues in Memphis, Tennessee, and Rax Trax and Gravity in Chicago, Illinois.

Laurence picked up his first instrument, the clarinet, at the age of 10 as part of his school band. His dedication continued through to high school where he expanded to percussion. Wholly self-taught, he graduated to Michigan State University’s nationally renowned Marching Band and Competition Drumline. This self-teaching of instruments carried over to guitar, bass and piano, all of which he plays at the same expert level as drums.

Laurence lives in Los Angeles, where almost every room in his home is a performance or recording space.
